A rich and moist chocolate cake inspired by classic American recipes, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Dry ingredients

  • 180 g flour (all-purpose)
  • 70 g cocoa powder (100% cacao)
  • 10 g baking powder
  • 3 g baking soda
  • 3 g salt (refined)

Wet ingredients

  • 70 g butter (unsalted)
  • 300 g sugar (crystal)
  • 120 mL vegetable oil
  • 3 units eggs
  • 115 g yogurt (unsweetened)
  • 100 g chocolate (bittersweet, melted)
  • 5 g instant coffee (soluble)
  • 15 mL vanilla extract (optional)
  • 75 g milk chocolate (drops or chopped)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 180°C. Prepare a 32x22cm (or 34x24cm) pan, line with parchment, and dust with cocoa powder if desired.
  • Mix dry ingredients: flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt. Set aside.
  • Combine melted chocolate and yogurt. Set aside.
  • Dissolve coffee and vanilla in water if not using extract. Set aside.
  • Cream butter, sugar, and oil until smooth, about 5 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Mix in yogurt and chocolate mixture.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients, mixing until incorporated.
  • Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan, level surface.
  • Bake at 180°C for 30-35 minutes. Check with a toothpick.
  • Cool before removing from pan. Chill in fridge for 1 hour before serving.

Notes

For layered effect, cut the cooled cake into three layers using the 15cm diameter ring as a guide.
