How to Make the Recipe

Now, let’s get cooking! Follow these simple steps to create your Katsu Sando:

  1. Prepare the Pork: Start by seasoning the pork chops with salt and pepper on both sides. This will enhance the flavor of your Katsu Sando.
  2. Breading Station: Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one for flour, one for the beaten egg, and one for panko breadcrumbs. Dredge each pork chop in flour, dip it in the egg, and then coat it with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  3. Fry the Pork: In a large skillet, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded pork chops. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Assemble the Sandwich: On a slice of bread, spread a generous amount of tonkatsu sauce. Place the crispy pork chop on top, add a handful of shredded cabbage, and finish with another slice of bread.
  5. Slice and Serve: Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately. Enjoy your delicious Katsu Sando!

Pro Tips for Making the Recipe

Here are some of my favorite tips to ensure your Katsu Sando turns out perfectly:

  • For extra crunch, double-dip the pork in the egg and panko breadcrumbs.
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying; you can test it by dropping a small piece of bread in—if it sizzles, you’re good to go!
  • Feel free to experiment with different sauces, like spicy mayo or even a drizzle of honey for a sweet twist.
  • If you’re short on time, you can use pre-cooked pork cutlets to speed up the process.

How to Serve

This Katsu Sando is perfect for a quick lunch or a satisfying dinner. Pair it with a side of pickled vegetables or a simple salad for a complete meal. You can also serve it with a side of creamy garlic pasta for a delightful fusion of flavors!

Make Ahead and Storage

If you want to prepare this dish in advance, you can bread the pork chops and store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before frying. This makes it a fantastic option for 30-minute meals on busy nights! Leftover Katsu Sando can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Just reheat in a skillet to maintain that crispy texture.

Now that you know how to make this delicious Katsu Sando, I hope you’re inspired to try it out! It’s a fun and flavorful way to shake up your weeknight dinner ideas. Enjoy every bite, and don’t forget to share your creations with family and friends!
